About TypeTimer
Typing test sites split into two camps. One camp has a wonderful test, instant and minimal and keyboard-first, and almost nothing else. The other camp has pages that answer every typing question you might search for, wrapped around a test that feels like 2010. TypeTimer exists because there was no site doing both well.
What we optimize for
- The test is the product. No start button, no interstitial, no sign-up nag. The timer starts on your first keystroke and Tab gives you a fresh test instantly.
- No accounts, ever. Your history, personal bests, and trend charts live in your browser's localStorage. Nothing about your typing is sent to a server — which is both the privacy policy and the architecture.
- Honest numbers. Gross WPM, net WPM, and accuracy are computed with the standard 5-characters-per-word math and the classic uncorrected-error penalty, documented right on the how WPM works page. No inflated scores, no invented percentiles.
- The certificate can be checked. Plenty of sites sell a certificate PNG that nobody can verify. Our verified certificate ($4.99, one-time) carries a unique ID that anyone can confirm at typetimer.com/verify — and the shareable result card stays free.
What's here
Timed tests from 1 minute to 10 minutes plus a 30-second sprint, a stopwatch mode that runs until you stop, a common-words WPM test, an accuracy-first test, and a custom test for your own text. The blog covers the questions the tests raise: what a good speed is, how WPM math works, and how to get faster.
