A certificate that can actually be checked

Most online typing certificates — free or paid — are just an image with your name on it. Anyone with an image editor can change the number, and the person you hand it to has no way to tell. That's the problem the TypeTimer certificate fixes: every certificate we issue gets a unique verification ID, stored with the certified score, that anyone can look up at typetimer.com/verify. If the document says 72 WPM and the record says 72 WPM, it's genuine. If they don't match, it isn't.

The certificate costs a one-time $4.99. Everything else stays free: the tests, your local history and personal bests, and the shareable result-card image you can post anywhere. Other sites charge for certificates too — ours is the one a recruiter can verify without taking your word for it.

What number should you certify?

Certify the speed you can repeat, not your lucky run. A commonly cited average is around 40 WPM; job postings that state a requirement most often ask for something in the 40 to 70 WPM range depending on the role — the blog's guide to typing requirements by job has details. If your number is not there yet, the 30-day improvement plan is the fastest route — practice is free, so come back and certify when the score is worth putting your name on.

How it works

Finish a timed test, choose "Get your verified certificate" on the results screen, and pay through Stripe. You'll be sent straight back to claim your certificate: confirm the name to print, get your verification ID, and download the PNG. The whole thing takes about a minute after the test ends. Share the ID with employers, schools, or clients — they can verify it in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the typing certificate cost?
The certificate is a one-time $4.99, paid through Stripe. The test itself, your local history, and the shareable result-card image are all free — you only pay if you want the verified credential.
What makes the certificate verified?
Each certificate carries a unique ID (format TT-XXXXX-XXXXX). We store the certified name, WPM, accuracy, test length, and issue date against that ID, and anyone — a recruiter, a school, a client — can enter it at typetimer.com/verify to confirm the details match the document. An edited certificate fails the check.
What information is on the certificate?
The name you enter, your net WPM, your accuracy percentage, your consistency score, the test length, the issue date, the verification ID, and the verification address. No watermark over the content and no upsell footer.
Which test lengths qualify for a certificate?
Any standard timed test: 30 seconds, or 1, 3, 5, and 10 minutes. This page defaults to the 3 minute test because it is long enough to be credible on an application — if the certificate is going in front of an employer, a 3 or 5 minute result carries more weight than a 30 second sprint.
Will employers accept this certificate?
Treat it as strong evidence, not proof of identity. The test is self-administered, so a serious employer may still retest you at interview — but unlike an unverifiable PNG, this certificate lets them confirm in seconds that the score is genuine and unedited. Only certify a score you can repeat under observation.
Can I retake the test before buying the certificate?
As many times as you like, free — press Tab for a fresh test. Take three runs, warm up on the first, and certify your best honest result. You pay only when you choose to certify.
